The projects “Wabi Sabi Apartment” and “Studio Makhno Office” have been selected as the best in the categories “Interior Design” and “Office Design”. The official European Property Awards ceremony will take place on 26 October.
For 26 consecutive years, International Property Awards celebrate the highest levels of achievements by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry. It is a world-renowned mark of excellence.
An independent group of 70 design and architecture professionals evaluate the projects according to the main criteria: design, quality, innovation, and uniqueness. The Earl of Liverpool, Lord Caithness and Lord Best head the judging panel.
“This year is rich in international awards for our studio. Earlier we have been distinguished by Red Dot Design Award with “Best of the Best” and “Honorable Mention” in product design. And now we are the best in interior design. Next step is architecture”, says Serhii Makhno, the founder and head of the MAKHNO Studio.
The duplex apartment with a terrace is an interior of opposites that combines authentic techniques with modern technologies. The walls are covered with clay as our forefathers did in their huts, and the ceiling is decorated with wooden beams.
“I like to combine the things that are not regular to combine, to find unusual in ordinary things. As my wife says, everything our customers were afraid of we has implemented in our apartment”, says Serhii Makhno.

The office of the MAKHNO Studio was completed in 2014.
The studio’s favourite materials were used: concrete, stone, glass, copper and bronze.
Art is an inherent part of the space that makes the office look like a mini-gallery. You can find works by Oleg Tistol, Serhii Rad’ko, Yury Musatov, Dmitry Grek and Zoya Orlova here. One of the main displays is the bronze statue “The Rain” by Nazar Bilyk. Serhii Makhno is fond of ceramics and has his collection in the study. The office also functions as a showroom where you can see the author’s lighting designed and produced by the studio.
