Location

Kyiv, Ukraine

850 М2

Year

2023

DACHA is the first family home in Ukraine from the Zaporuka Charitable Foundation. It is a place of strength, peace, and respite for seriously ill children who are now fighting for their lives. This cozy home helps families not to be separated while their child is undergoing treatment.

The most important thing for us was to create a place where families overcoming difficult life challenges would feel at home. A place where children will be interested and have fun, and adults will feel comfortable and calm. A place that is completely inclusive and comfortable for everyone. A place that is easy to maintain and update. Most importantly, a place that is so important that it will finally just happen, despite the war and other hardships.

THE HOUSE HAS:

• 13 family rooms for comfortable living
• common areas, kitchen, and dining room
• play and study areas
• psychologist's and physical rehabilitation rooms, etc.
• administrative part

"FAMILY COMFORT AND CARE ARE THE CORE VALUES THAT FORM THE FOUNDATION OF DACHA. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE FAMILIES OF THE "DACHA" RESIDENTS FEEL. WE HAVE MADE THIS HOME AS COZY AND COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, SAFE."

- Natalia Onipko, President of the Zaporuka Charitable Foundation, and the MAKHNO Studio team.

ADMINISTRATION ROOM

We start the tour of the house from here because this block connects the "dacha residents" with the outside world — a neat meeting room behind glass and the bright office of the head of the institution. Everything is simple and functional. White and terracotta define the color dominant of the design, conveying purity and nobility. In the children's areas, they will be joined by sunny yellow.

Serhii Makhno gladly presented these rooms with lamps - the SOPILKA ceramic series and the KHMARA designer lamp, which perfectly decorate the minimalist interiors of the offices. And here is an interesting sculpture "The Tree of Life", we will see this symbol more than once, because what is a summer cottage without trees?

LIVING ROOM

A spacious hall with a library, upholstered furniture, and a small performance stage. This hall features a lot of rectangular planks under the ceiling. Each of them bears the name of a partner company, thanks to which the project was realized, and there are currently 65 of them. At the slightest touch, they rustle like the leaves of a magical forest. Do you remember the Tree of Life?

COMMON SPACES

The ground floor has many common rooms for various purposes. Among them are a bright physical rehabilitation room with exercise equipment and a calm kitchen-dining room. Ergonomic and spacious, it has everything you need to cook and treat each other in a truly home-like atmosphere. Moreover, several families can live here at the same time.

PLAYROOMS

We climb the brightly colored staircase, where we meet the Tree of Life again, and find ourselves in the children's playroom. There are soft carpeted plateaus and many niches for toys, as well as corners for relaxation. There is even a safe gymnastic apparatus! This stylish eco-friendly design, by the way, is simple and easy to clean.

We pass a corridor with interactive toys and enter the teenage playroom. Here, there are even more niches for relaxation, the design is even more stylish, and instead of physical toys, there is a large screen for digital adventures. An interesting system of various boxes is built into the walls and stairs, where you can find a bunch of board games.

"GRACE AND BEAUTY CAN NOT BE SEPARATED FROM HEALTH"

- Marcus Tullius Cicero

A SPACE OF PEACE

On the second floor, there is also an area for quiet conversations and reflection. This is a psychologist's office with soft rounded shapes and a minimalist mood, as well as a relaxation room - it is soundproofed, has soft walls, and has the same soft lighting. Here you can read, meditate, or just dream.

ROOMS

This is perhaps the most important thing - 13 family rooms for a comfortable stay for the whole family. So that the child does not feel fear and longing. The rooms are different, but everywhere is very homely. They even have funny names, for example: "Crippled Kids", "Brave Tigers" and "Jungle" for the youngest, or "SuperStar", "Megapolis" or "Surfing" for the older ones. The names also reflect the artistic design, so each of the rooms is not only ergonomic and comfortable, but also simply creative and fun. Just like a child's room.

Each room must have a restroom with a shower. They are also different, but they all meet sanitary and age standards, safety, and inclusivity requirements.

We want to tell you an interesting story about the Red Cat room. Once upon a time, when the DACHA project did not have its own house but rented one of the little wards, Sasha, wanted a red cat.

According to the rules of such places, the wish was not realizable, but the dreamer was offered to draw his cat until he recovered and could have an animal. The boy did so, but that was not all.

Soon, the foundation was helping the artist sell his drawings for donations that went to his speedy recovery. Then the artist even shared his charity with other children, because "not everyone can draw so well" (c). Soon, the boy recovered and realized his dream, and his drawing of a cat now adorns the wall of this room. Just like that!

DACHA is one of our most important projects. In terms of significance and impact, it is the most important. This is our joy and pain because due to unstable funding and then the war, construction lasted for 5 years. But finally, Dacha is open!

We are grateful to Zaporuka for the honor of being involved in this crucial and extraordinary project. We thank all the people and companies who contributed to its implementation. Thank you!
