TOP-5 MODERN DESIGNER LAMPS THAT HAVE ALREADY BECOME ICONIC

Light is a basic component of design, yet it is often overlooked and mentioned last. But despite its non-objective nature, lighting has a key impact on the perception of space, mood and experience of being in it.

“Change the lamp and you change the room,” our designers joke. And then they add seriously: “by directing the lighting, you direct the scenario of life in the room.”

Below, we will take a look at 5 modern designer ceiling lamps that have become iconic thanks to their intricate shapes and their silhouettes are recognizable all over the world.

FLAMINGO by Antoni Arola (VIBIA)

FLAMINGO is a pendant lamp with translucent shades that emits soft and gentle diffused light. Spanish designer Antoni Arola created this elegant piece when he wanted to do something really unusual. Namely, not to wrap the lantern in a shade, but to direct the light onto the shade itself, so that it becomes a radiator.

This formula produced ethereal soft designer lighting. So, thanks to this decomposition or rather deconstruction, the designer found the possibility of numerous combinations and combinations of several light disks.

This functional poetry has earned the lamp the Delta Selection ADI-FAD, Wallpaper Design Award, Design Plus Light+building, as well as love and affection all over the world.

The lamp consists of plastic, aluminum, and metal components and is available in several color variations. The effect created by its radiation is actually very soft and hypnotic.

NOCTAMBULE by Konstantin Grcic (FLOS)

Noctambule is an elegant glass column with transparent gaps that seem to float between rings of diffused LED light. Roughly translated from French, “noctambule” means “night reveler” or, as Grcic says, “the one that is invisible during the day, the one that comes to life at night.”

So the designer wanted to create an object that would also disappear when it was turned off and be transparent and invisible during the day. The iconic lamp consists of transparent glass elements: four tall cylinders connected by an almost invisible LED module. Thanks to the flexibility of its composition, the Noctambule pendant lamp adapts to any space, from the most unpretentious to the most luxurious.

Noctambule is the embodiment of Konstantin Grcic’s vision, which not only claims to be minimalist, but in his practice destroys the superfluous and “brazenly” takes only the necessary. According to him, design has no moral purpose, it just wants to create an intimate and physical experience.

These principles helped the lamp to receive prestigious awards such as AZ Awards, EDIDA Awards, ADI Design Index, and others.

KHMARA by Serhii Makhno (MAKHNO)

The silhouette of the KHMARA lamp, which was born in the ceramic studio of Ukrainian Serhii Makhno, quickly won the love and affection of beauty connoisseurs thanks to its extraordinary artistic form and became famous lamp design in all corners of the planet.

“Khmara” means “cloud” in Ukrainian, so the concept conveys a dreamy atmosphere, the imperfect perfection of the moment and a subtle light movement, as if the ceiling were the sky and the lamp was a gentle cloud on it.

KHMARA is a shining art sculpture. An amazing art object will become the center of any space, balancing and harmonizing it. Each piece is handmade from clay, copper or lightweight author’s materials of the studio. So each one is unique and inimitable, with its characteristic shape, texture, and color.

The lamp became the winner of Big See Interior Design Awards and Interior Design Magazine Awards, was shortlisted for SBID International Design Excellence Awards, Archiproducts Design Awards, and was included in the list of the main trends of the world’s largest design exhibition iSaloni. Salone del Mobile.Milano was selected for the top trends zone of Maison&Objet in Paris, recognized by the world’s most influential design media ArchDaily, etc.

LEDERAM MANTA by Enzo Catellani (CATELLANI&SMITH)

Lederam reflects the principles of Catellani & Smith, high end lighting company, a family-run workshop in Italy that has become the epitome of craftsmanship, quality, and aesthetics. The lamp fascinates with its noble, somewhat extravagant design and a first-class diffused glow effect, this is high end modern lighting

We are looking at very thin spherical segments handmade from aluminum. They are either painted black or white or covered with gold or copper metal foil.

The spherical segments reflect the light emitted by the smaller, also ultra-flat spheres with an integrated LED module. Since they are movable, you can adjust the direction of the beams yourself and create individual lighting scenarios. Together, they create a gentle, diffused, glare-free lighting effect, especially in luminaires with gold or copper fittings.

The Lederam series includes ceiling and wall lamps, as well as pendant, floor, and table lamps. Thanks to its absolute quality and amazing aesthetics, the lamp has won a number of important international awards.

MULTI-LITE PENDANT by Louis Weisdorf (GUBI)

The Multi-Lite Pendant is a modernized creation of the golden era of Danish design, embodied in an inventive combination of two mobile, rotating shades that allow for a customized installation and a wide range of lighting values in a room.

Thanks to this know-how, Multi-Lite Pendant can be transformed into several combinations to direct the light upwards, downwards, or create an asymmetrical artistic radiation.

Multi-Lite was drawn by Louis Weissdorf in 1972, when the designer made an exception to his own custom by using several repeating elements. So here we have a design where two cylindrical shapes form the base of the lamp, and a metal ring encloses it and secures it, which ultimately completes the picture of an iconic piece with several variations.

Available in large and small sizes, Multi-Lite pendants create a stunning beauty in the heart of any room – whether suspended above the dining table, illuminating the kitchen countertop or the living room area. And although this amazing interactive lamp was created almost half a century ago, thanks to its futuristic and timeless design, its relevance among fans of unconventional solutions is only growing.
