NEOBRUTALIZM – THE FLOW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE XX CENTURY ARCHITECTURE. MORE “MASCULINE”, RATHER THAN “FEMININE”: REBEL, WITH COARSE FEATURES, LIKES THE CONCRETENESS AND CONSTRUCTIVE SOLUTIONS, CHOOSES NATURAL MATERIALS.
I got to know what the neobrutalizm is about 8 years ago. I came across an interesting article. A man worked in a concrete factory and used the material in interior design. In such a way I found out that a spartan style “a lot of concrete and a little of decor” is the neobrutalizm. I realized it is “mine” and began to study a new direction.
The neobrutalizm combines concrete, iron, glass and wood. My favourite materials.
“Brutalism”
The term found currency in the 1950s. Its father architectural critic Reyner Banham used it to describe the works of the British architects Peter and Alison Smithson. The word was borrowed from the French “bétonbrut” or “raw concrete”.
The Unite d’Habitation in Marseilles (1952) of Le Corbusier is the first Brutalist project.
Neobrutalism is concise.
The New Brutalism makes the conception of a building plain and comprehensible. It does not hide the texture of natural materials. Raw is good. There is a question about the decor: “Is it needed?”. Better to avoid.
Open surfaces allow seeing the beauty of imperfection. It is an opportunity to touch nature indoors and deeply understand own essence.
The palette of colours ranges from white to dark grey. Grey contrast well with brown (ceiling beams or pieces of furniture). The basic tone can be supplemented with accents of blue, green, and purple.
No one calls for dwelling among the bare walls and scattered fixtures, but part of this atmosphere should be.
