Dialogues. Alevtina Kakhidze

Where do dialogues usually take place? At home, in a kitchen, in a workshop? The common link is talking «not in front of everyone». We reformatted the concept. Events were transferred to our gallery, and her guests become attentive listeners.

Our “Dialogues” have their purpose. Conceiving the project, we focused not only on creativity but on the environment where artists gather.

The protagonist of “Dialogues” is not some kind of a conventional artist. It’s a person of flesh and blood, with their intonations, facial expressions, gestures and tone of voice.

Some things can’t be faked or provoked. A hand shower isn’t raining.

First and foremost is the encounter in Dialogues with Alevtina Kakhidze – the winner of the Malevich Prize and founder of the art residence in Muzychi. We call it “encounter”, because of the scale of the individual. This woman reads with enthusiasm. Her listeners will be inspired by her communication skills and interesting topics. Alevtina can revitalize her audience with her proprietary questions (from the category of rhetorical #thisisyoudream), or her philosophy of plant cultivation. (the project of Heroes of – what will save the world?

The key to understanding the conversation was the answer to the question of what will save the world? Alytyna’s answer is “not beauty, but awareness of beauty.” It has become a good tradition of the artist not just “not to visit empty-handed”, but to bring a gift of herbs from her own “herbal garden” (as she likes to call the garden).

Alevtyna came to “Dialogues” with a huge bouquet. Everyone pinched off a little for themselves.

We did a lot of philosophizing at the meeting. Where does performance end and life begin? Or maybe life is that exciting action, the limits of which should not be defined?

A MOMENT FROM MEMORY. Alevtyna crosses the line between real life and performance and reads the text. The one that was written for the exhibition. The ones where a naked model was photographed. The one from the project about feelings. The one who told how it is to undress in front of the camera.

What is the difference when a woman and a man take off their clothes? How does a person feel when doing it for the first time? Alevtyna started a whole gender study with her works. But the theme of a woman is not the only one in her creative space (although the bunny shoes in which the artist came to the meeting persistently ask for a separate conversation).

The parallels of “Dialogues” touched on life and death on the Internet, dogs and even a “living” house. At some point, the atmosphere in the gallery rose to such a degree that it began to seem as if we were in Alytyna’s kitchen. Is it in the workshop? After all, dialogues work best there.
