Why we are talking about this
Khmara is one of MAKHNO studio’s most recognizable lamps. It is copied by marketplaces, showrooms, and even Ukrainian manufacturers. We will not discuss ethics or copyright here, even though we have a legally protected trademark. Instead, we will tell you how to avoid buying a fake.

How to spot a fake
The main difference: shape. A copy cannot replicate the shape of Khmara. Ever. The original has a complex, precise shape. Fakes always have a simplified and inaccurate shape.
Seams: Khmara seams are clean, even, and almost invisible; fakes have rough joints.
Material and surface. The original Khmara is handmade from a proprietary mixture.
The surface is lively, tactile, without gloss or a “plastic” sheen. The copy is “dead,” made from the cheapest plastic or plaster.

Light. We created Khmara as a light volume, not just a lamp body. It provides soft, diffused light, works well with shadows, and does not cause glare. In copies, the light is always harsh and flat, which “breaks” the shape.
Certificate and marking. The original always has: MAKHNO embossing and a unique number, a certificate of authenticity, official origin, and a warranty. If it doesn’t have these, it’s not Khmara.
Price. A price that is too low speaks for itself.
The original Khmara has an author, a history, and its shape, proportions, and light volume are the result of years of work. It was named after the expression “smells the clouds” (i.e., loafs around, does nothing), which the father of our studio’s founder, Serhii Makhno, likes to repeat. A copy is a stolen design: without an author, without history, and without responsibility.

Let’s sum up
When you buy a fake, you support piracy and finance those who make money from theft. You get a product without guarantees, without standards, and without history. When you buy the original, you get quality, origin, and honest work.
A copy is like any fake: you only understand the difference when you start using it. But then it’s too late.
Make a reasonable choice.
Buy the original Khmara at the MAKHNO studio or from official dealers.
